The Story Behind Santa Tommy
In 1978, a 9-year-old Cub Scout visited a local nursing home to sing Christmas carols and spend time with the residents — including one of his grandparents. Before he went, he asked his mother: “Could I wear Pappy’s Santa outfit?”
It wasn’t anything fancy — a handmade flannel suit from the 1940s. Stuffed with a pillow and wearing a well-loved wig and beard, off he went. The residents loved it, and his mother was so proud she told the story more than once.
Now, 48 years later, I’m honored to introduce Santa Tommy — in memory of my Mum and Pappy, and that little boy who helped share Christmas joy so long ago.
